Planners have this week given the Kellen Homes and Great Places Housing Group the go-ahead to start work on a neighbourhood of new houses for the people of East Manchester, almost half of which will be affordable homes.
Manchester City Council has approved the application for 498 new homes on the former Riverpark Trading Estate in East Manchester. The scheme will create 221, two, three and four-bedroom houses and 277 apartments including a number of specially adapted homes. The development includes a sustainable travel cycle lane on Riverpark Road and improved connectivity to Philips Park.
Riverpark is a joint project between leading housebuilder Kellen Homes and social housing provider Great Places and is the latest collaboration between the two organisations who are committed to creating high quality new and affordable homes for people in the North West area.
Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and development, said: “This former industrial site presents a major opportunity for this part of our city to bring significant brownfield land back into active use, creating hundreds of new homes for the east Manchester – and importantly, half of these homes will be affordable, helping us to meet our ambitious target to help build at least 10,000 truly affordable and Council homes up to 2032.”
Nick Gornall, Director of Development at Great Places, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning consent for Riverpark, that will bring much-needed, high-quality homes to East Manchester. Significant demolition and enabling works have already taken place on this under utilised brownfield site to prepare the site for the delivery of new homes. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering affordable housing and creating thriving communities. Working in partnership with Kellen Homes, we’re proud to be playing a part in the regeneration of the area and look forward to seeing the positive impact these new homes will have for local people.”
And Kellen Homes’ Chief Executive Ian Kelley, said of the new scheme: “We are fully committed to building homes to meet the needs of local communities and are very pleased to once again partner with Great Places Housing Group in this cornerstone development for East Manchester. Kellen Homes builds quality homes that offer modern living solutions for a wide range of individuals, couples and families.”
