School children from Middleton have buried a time capsule with reminders of 2024 to mark the development of the new Kellen homes at Mill Vale.
Youngsters from St Gabriel’s Church of England Primary School and Elm Wood Primary School, both in Middleton, came together this week to bury a time capsule at the new Kellen Homes development of 311 houses at Don Street.
They buried a time capsule containing a selection of items that represent the current times and artwork by the children themselves. The items included pictures of the class of ’24, coins, the week’s top ten chart songs, the school logos, a newspaper from the day and a picture of an iphone and ipad. The spot has been marked with a plaque and a tree, to be dug up in years to come to allow the next generation to connect with the origins of the Mill Vale neighbourhood.
Kellen Homes has now sold some of the first homes to be ready on the site and the three show homes are attracting lots of prospective buyers. The new community of homes is being built off Don Street in Middleton on the site of the former British Vita land either side of the River Irk.
Lewis Broadbent, assistant site manager at Mill Vale for Kellen Homes, was present at the ceremony. He said “It is lovely to involve local children in this project and for them to understand the significance of us creating a legacy for the future.
They have been very imaginative about some of the items they have chosen to immortalise this moment and we very much hope that some of them become future Mill Vale residents.”
