Kellen Homes has completed the final phase of homes at the landmark development Mount Road in Gorton and this week handed over the final 60 homes to Great Places Housing Group.
Mellands Park is a significant, mixed tenure development with a total of 303 homes, 60 affordable homes made available for shared ownership and social rent through Great Places, 36 independent living affordable apartments for 18-to-25-year-olds leaving care, managed by the youth charity Centrepoint, and the remaining 207 homes available for rent through leading build to rent provider Simple Life, part of Sigma Capital Group.
The scheme has been delivered by a partnership of Kellen Homes and Greater Manchester Youth Federation (GMYF), alongside Great Places, Sigma Capital Group and Centrepoint.
Local Councillors joined Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, Councillor Gavin White, and the Kellen Homes, Greater Manchester Youth Federation, Great Places, Sigma and Centrepoint teams to mark the end of this important phase of the project.
Talking on the milestone, Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “It’s fantastic to see the strength of the city’s housing partnerships come together and deliver this brilliant community housing scheme. This development offers a mix of homes and tenures – including social rent and affordable housing – that help create desirable and sustainable neighbourhoods that our residents can take real pride in.”
As part of the wider scheme, Greater Manchester Youth Federation is providing two, new, FA-standard full-size grass football pitches, a combined netball and basketball court and a new youth and community centre which is due to be completed in November 2026. The pitches will be used by a local, grass roots football club for young people and the centre will be an addition to GMYF's existing Greater Manchester youth centres, providing a safe and vibrant space for the young people of Gorton and surrounding areas.
Nick Anderson, Head of Partnerships at Kellen Homes, said of completion: “Mellands Park is a highly significant new neighbourhood for the Gorton area. We are delighted that the completed homes mean that local people can now really start to benefit from the investment and new homes.”
With the majority of homes being built for Sigma’s Simple Life Homes, Lee Catterall, Development Director says “We’re delighted to see Mellands Park reach completion. Gorton is a new location in the North West for us, and it has proven very popular with our homes leasing up quickly. We’re pleased to be offering local renters a better-quality home, matched with a professional rental experience.”
Nick Gornall, Director of Growth at Great Places, said: "Mellands Park is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared ambition for an area. Through our partnership with Kellen Homes and the wider project team, we've been able to provide high-quality affordable homes alongside community facilities that will support local people for years to come. We're delighted to welcome customers into these new homes and to play our part in the continued regeneration of Gorton."
Glyn Potts MBE DL, CEO of Greater Manchester Youth Federation, said: “Our mission as a charity is to support aspiration and provide opportunities for young people. This project and the many partners involved shows a commitment to Gorton, to young people and to the community. We are proud that through the hard work of a committed team, young people will have safe and supportive routes to happiness.”
