Planning permission was granted for the new homes on the former railway siding and land used previously by Tata Steel for the storage and distribution of steel, the land had been vacant and derelict for over a decade.
Hawks View, will include 191 quality two, three and four bedroom family homes, with 29 homes allocated for affordable housing. The scheme will provide 3.83 hectares of open space including a garden square that sits at the heart of the development, which will build on the site’s unique history, following the routes of the old railway lines, supplemented with a children’s play area acting as a central hub for residents. A large green open space has been reserved to create an Ecology Park, where new habitats will be created for wildlife to thrive.
Kellen Homes will gift land to East Lancashire Railway to facilitate the extension of the East Lancashire Railway from Heywood to Castleton and the provision of tram-train infrastructure which is a key component of the Greater Manchester Transport Plan.
