Kellen Homes has reaffirmed its commitment to building a construction workforce for the future with two new college students joining on placements.
Jackson Farnell and Harry Ankers who both attend Hopwood Hall College, have joined the Kellen Homes team for a 45-day placement spanning more than 20 weeks. The students will work on Kellen Homes’ site at Mill Vale for two days a week alongside experienced construction professionals. This will allow them to gain real-life experience of how a new homes construction site develops, from early ground work through to sign-off of a finished home.
The rest of the week will see the pair, who are both studying for a T-Level Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction qualification, at college. Jackson and Harry are keen to get practical, first-hand knowledge to allow them to progress to their chosen careers as site managers or quantity surveyors are delighted to have secured the roles.
Kellen Homes Chief Executive, Ian Kelley, underlined the importance of the placements. He said: “In just the same way that we take our commitment to creating communitities for the future with our quality house-building, we believe in supporting young people and encouraging them to actively chose careers in construction. There is a myriad of opportunities available in our industry and we need young talent to help us achieve our new housebuilding targets. I am delighted to welcome Jackson and Harry to the team.”
And Kellen Homes’ Build Manager, Neil Jones, added: “The combination of qualifications and real-life experience will put Harry and Jackson in a great position to go on and secure the jobs they aspire to. It is a pleasure to be training the future of the construction industry and they are a great addition to the hard working team at Kellen.”
Harry and Jackson are both looking forward to their time with Kellen Homes. Harry said: “It’s a great chance to see how what we learn in college works on live construction sites.” And Jackson added: “There is no better way to learn than to experience it for ourselves.”
Work is well underway on the Kellen Homes Mill Vale development and will see a total of 311 two, three and four bedroomed homes built on the site off Don Street in the heart of Middleton. The first phase of the homes are now available for sale.
