Kellen Homes has completed the purchase of land off Don Street in Middleton and is now set to build 311, much-needed, mixed tenure new homes.
The housebuilder, which last month secured planning consent for the new houses on the former Rex Mill site in Middleton, has now completed the purchase of the site and will shortly start development work.
The move gives a green light on the development and will include 167 quality, two, three and four bedroomed family homes for sale, 99 ‘built-to-rent’ homes for Sigma Capital Group and 45 affordable homes for First Choice Housing Association including four, specially adapted homes for disabled people.
Ian Kelley, Chief Executive of Kellen Homes, described the development as a huge boost for the local area. He said: “Mill Vale will deliver much-needed new housing for local people and provide a vital injection to the area which will be used to support local education, sporting facilities and plants and wildlife.
“The new neighbourhood will provide well-designed, quality homes for families, with a range of tenures that people can buy or rent, and we are fully committed to developing a vibrant living place that creates a community for the future.”
Kellen Homes will make a financial contribution of more than £1m towards education, outdoor sports and wildlife and plant life as part of the scheme and the plans also include the first part of a future link road with Hilton Fold Lane, while allotments and new car parking will be transferred to Rochdale council.
A total of 550 new trees will be planted on site and 60 bird boxes and 30 bat boxes erected to encourage wildlife
