And having applied for one of the apprenticeships offered by Kellen Homes, he was thrilled when he was taken on as a carpenter and joiner to complete his NVQ Level Two apprenticeship.
The 18-year-old spends four days a week on Kellen Homes construction sites across the North West and one day a week classroom-based studying at City Skills at Salford City College.
And he loves the variety. He explained: “I really enjoy doing the first fix and the roofs in the apartment blocks. You can start the day with pieces of timber and by the end have the frame of a house to show for your work.
“We move between sites where the work is needed to be done and I’m really enjoying learning the job and everyone is really nice and supportive. Long term I want to become fully qualified and work on site.”
