Having decided not to go to University, Harry went along to the Salford Build apprenticeship recruitment event where he met Kellen Homes, interviewed for the role and is now thriving in his apprenticeship role.
Harry, who is from Chadderton, combines four days of practical work experience with one day a week of classroom learning at City Skills at Salford City College. And as an apprentice site manager at Kellen’s site at Seaford Road in Salford he has already learned a huge amount in his first six months.
He explained: “ I knew I didn’t want to go to University and end up with thousands of pounds of debt, and construction is in the family so when I completed a placement in the industry, I knew it was the job for me.
“I interviewed for the role at Kellen and started as an apprentice site manager which is a really busy and ever-changing job. I go to college one day a week and am on site the other four. It’s a great experience and you are basically being paid to learn.”
This week marks National Apprenticeship Week (10th to 16th February 2025). The week is a government-run initiative to bring together business and apprentices showcasing the economic and social boost that apprenticeships give to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
