He saw the apprenticeship roles at Kellen Homes and went along to the Build Salford recruitment event to find out more and was delighted when he was accepted on to the apprenticeship scheme as a bricklayer.
Thomas, who is from Middleton, always knew that he didn’t want to work in an office having seen his dad work as a landscape gardener, and now he’s thriving as he works towards his Level Two Apprenticeship
He explained: “It’s a great way to learn the trade and you get paid at the same time. I had experience before I started the apprenticeship scheme, so I knew what to expect but it is very hard work and very skilled.
“I’m really enjoying learning and seeing the houses go up as we work. It’s a good feeling to look back and know that you have built that.
And Thomas is looking forward to completing his apprenticeship and continuing to learn. He said: “It’s great to be part of an industry that’s growing with a skill that is needed. I am looking forward to progressing with my career.”
