She strongly believes that more women and girls should be considering the industry for their future career. And she was all set to become a bricklayer with an apprenticeship with Kellen Homes until football injuries saw her switch to becoming a painter and decorator.
And the 18-year-old from Little Hulton is loving the new career direction studying and working to achieve her apprentice in painting and decorating.
She takes up the story: “I was going to be a bricklayer but then I broke both wrists and my collarbone in the space of a few months playing football and bricklaying is both skilled and very physical, so I switched to decorating and I’m really enjoying it.
“I would highly recommend an apprenticeship in the construction industry to anyone wondering what career path to follow, and especially for woman. Construction has been a male-dominated industry but more women are now getting jobs in the building trade and rising up through the ranks.”
And she added: “It’s fulfilling and it’s a great career. And I’ve been made to feel really welcome here at Kellen Homes.”
